Archery Lesson Basics

from: Maxx Sports Guides

Archery is a great sport, providing a challenge as well as a great source for exercise. Whether you're getting into archery for the sport or as a hobby, it helps to take some archery lessons, since, like any sport, it isn't as easy as it seems.

Anyone can learn archery as long as they put some time and effort into this endeavor. Devotion and hard work are key when learning archery. Therefore, if you don't see yourself being able to put in a few hours each week, then you might want to reconsider taking archery lessons.

It takes time to master the archery, just like any other sport or hobby. So don't pressure yourself too much. Don't expect to hit the targets with accuracy immediately.

When starting out, it's important to get to know your equipment. This is something you should do even before you consider mastering the art of shooting. Getting familiar with the equipment and gear you'll be using makes taking archery lessons easier. Once you've mastered the equipment, you can them move on to shooting techniques.

When shooting, maintain a firm stance. Plant your feet firmly on the ground, with your body weight evenly distributed on both feet. The square stance is easier to execute during the early stages of learning the sport. Be aware of the shooting line and take a comfortable position, with your weight still evened out. Don't spread your feet out too much because this will just tire you down. Stand at 90 degrees to the target and don't lock your knees - just keep them as relaxed as possible.

You'll a good grip to lock down the arrow and secure the nock. Make sure the string goes all the way down the slot. Once this is achieved, you can them lift your bow arm and draw the string. Don't lock your elbow down either.

Grip the string with your index, middle, and ring fingers. Your index finger should be above the string, while the middle and ring fingers are below the string. This gives you a strong and neat grip. Draw the string to your chin, point at the target, and shoot.

These are, of course, just the basics of archery lessons. To become a good archer, you'll need lots of practice, but for people who enjoy taking on a challenge, this should be a problem. Success will be yours with time, patience and practice, practice, practice.
