Tandem Sky Diving Thrills
from: Maxx Sports GuidesIf you're interested in skydiving but hesitate to take your first solo dive, you should consider tandem skydiving as a way to get started. With tandem skydiving you'll be able to experience all the thrills of skydiving without worrying about being alone and it will help you decide if it's the right extreme sport for you. So what is tandem skydiving?
Tandem skydiving simply means you're harnessed to the front of a licensed instructor, so that when you're falling, an expert instructor is on your back. You'll be jumping from about 13,000 feet, although you can decide on a shorter distance if you want. Your instructor will know exactly when to exit the plane and jump. You'll then fall for one minute at about 120 miles per hour (mph) when your parachute cord is pulled to deploy the parachute. This will give you about 5 - 7 minutes of floating while you take in the breathtaking views and exhilaration while descending to the ground.
Tandem training classes are usually an hour of class time where you'll be taught the basic freefall skills and how to maneuver your canopy. Once you're ready, you'll take one jump connected to your instructor which earns you a First Jump certificate and logbook and usually some discount coupons so you can return with some friends and really get into tandem skydiving. You may also receive a video of your jump.
The reality is, not a lot of people are daring enough to skydive. It takes a certain type of person to jump out of an airplane and freefall at a speed of 120 mph or more in order to experience a few short minutes of amazing adrenaline rush action.
When tandem skydiving, you can choose the altitude you want to start your jump -- from as low as 9,000 feet all the way up to 15,000 feet. This 30 seconds to 60 seconds of free falling is thrilling adrenaline pumping action. Anyone who chooses this incredible experience will have to overcome a number of mental blocks just to get up in that airplane. Skydiving is an extreme sport that is likely to change the way you perceive life because any voluntary challenge you force yourself into that allows you to step away from your comfort zone, is bound to be a life changing event.
There are locations to take part in tandem skydivers all over the world. If you're planning a vacation and are itching to try out skydiving, yopu can book your vacation near a tandem skydiving facility. Once you've tried tandem skydiving, chances are you'll be back for more. Once you've mastered jumping in tandem, it's likely you'll graduate to solo jumping and may enjoy the sport so much you could consider becoming a tandem instructor.
A great place to consider is New Zealand where they offer tandem skydiving package for first time skydivers and experienced skydiver as well. As you're enjoying the adrenaline rush of tandem skydiving, you'll also be experiencing the breathtaking beauty of New Zealand as you slowly glide down to your targeted landing.
These views include magnificent snow covered mountains and crystal clear lakes. When you reach the altitude you've chosen for your jump, your picture will be taken before your jump. If you've chosen a package that includes video, a camera operator will be recording your tandem adventure so you'll be able to relive those thrilling moments over and over again.
