The Sport of Wakeboarding

That makes it a bit like water skiing, except you don't use water skis, but rather you use a board. If this sounds confusing, we'll look closer at the sport of Wakeboarding and many of the terms used by wakeboarders.
A-Frame: this is the rail that is shaped like the letter "A."
Bail: is what happens when you fall on your wakeboard.
Blind: is when a wakeboarder has the handle with their back facing the boat.
Core: is the material is used in a wakeboard.
Digger: is a bad wreck.
Bonk: touching your board on an obstacle.
Case: this is abruptly landing on top of the wake.
Dock Start: the rider can either stand and leap off the dock as the boat goes or sits on the edge of the dock and slide off.
Eye-Opener: is when you land so fast on the water there isn't enough time to close your eyes.
Fat Sack: is a sack filled with water and placed in the boat to make the wake bigger. Jib: riding the wakeboard on anything this isn't water.
Mobius: This invert has at least a 360-degree spin in it.
Glass: refers to smooth water.
Nose: is the tip closest to the end of the boat.
Pop: is when you're released from the wake and you generate pop.
Wakeboarding is actually a combination of several sports and has been around for many years. Those who participate in this sport use a board called a Skurfer that is a hybrid of a water ski and a surfboard. When a wakeboarder is on their board, they're tethered to a boat that pulls them. The objective of the wakeboarder is to jump up and through the wakes while performing tricks and doing their best to avoid crashing.
During the early days of wakeboarding, there were no straps to hold the feet to the board, but this changed in 1985 when straps for the feet were finally drilled onto the board. This was a major inovation and advancement for the sport because without the foot straps, athletes couldn't do higher jumps or get bigger air, thus making the sport more dynamic and free flowing. Before it was called wakeboarding, this sport was called skiboarding. Wakeboarding is a sport for any age, from four to eighty years old.
Other changes include the shape of the wakeboard, which has evolved a number of times over the past few years. These boards have now of a design that allows wakeboarders to gain big air and do some dazzling aerial tricks which will score major points with judges as well as spectators.
If you're interested in learning more about how to use a wakeboard, lessons are often available where there's is lots of water. Lesson depend on what aspects of wakeboarding you'd like to learn, such as launching. In California, there you'll find the following types of lessons available:
The Launch: this is great for any skill level, since you will be able to learn any trick from beginning to advanced. This lesson is usually 3 - 4 hours long.
The Local: is great for wakeboarders with some experience who want to learn additional techniques and tricks so they can advance to the next level.
The Competitor: is for the most serious wakeboarders who are really striving for continual advancement and improvement. This package provides three separate lessons.
The Pro: this is for those who want to ride like a pro. There are five separate lessons allowing you to work at whichever one you need to become an the expert at wakeboarding you've always wanted to be.
Lessons on the Boat: for those who like ride behind their own boat.
