Extreme Diving Sports

from: Maxx Sports Guides

We're going to take a look at a number of types of extreme diving sports. It should be noted that all extreme sports shouldn't be entered into lightly as there is always the possibility of a life-threatening injury or even loss of life. With that in mind, here's a look at the exciting world of extreme diving.

Diving With Great Whites: If you plan to do some cage diving with great white sharks in Africa, you're going to have to get a very early morning start. The boat you'll be taking has specially equipped cages for diving with the great whites. You attract the sharks by throwing fish overboard and then enter cage and it's lifted into the water as soon as the sharks arrive. If you're really looking for an extreme adrenaline rush, try jumping into the cage breathing only with a snorkel and have a the great white slither by and show you its teeth up close and personal.

Space Divers: Diving from space is diving from the very edge of our atmosphere. Anyone interested in space diving should consider this: During your climb to the edge of space the temperature will drop to about 94 degrees below zero -- and you still havn't reached your destination. You'll be sucking down oxygen while you climb closer and closer to the exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

As you continue your climb, you may start to wonder if your space suit will be able to hold up or if it could actually spring a leak. When you pass 43,000 feet, still climbing, you have an amazing view of the curvature of the earth and the darkness all around you. You finally reach the peak of your ascent at 102,800 feet above the earth -- a place called the edge of space. And this is where you're going to do your jump. When you reach the Earth’s gravity you are being propelled at 614 mph -- nine-tenths the speed of sound. Talk about extreme diving!

Extreme Sky Diving: You'll discover there are plenty of skydiving adventures to participate in for any extremist. If you love skydiving, you'll love the thrill of jumping from 15,000-feet overlooking the Kennedy Space Center, which provides you with an amazingly beautiful scenic view of the Atlantic Ocean.

Scad Diving: Scad diving is an experience that will give you a huge adrenaline rush since you'll be dropping from 164 feet in the air and free falling without the benefit of a bungee cord or parachute, into a suspended safety net while hitting speeds in excess of 56 mph.

Artic Scuba Diving: Scuba Diving in the Artic will provide any diving enthusiast the thrilling chance do some ice diving, plus diving with whales, or open-water diving. In these surroundings, you'll experience diving beneath the artic ice surrounded by ice stalactites or inside glacier pools. You may find yourself diving beside looming walls of ice or exploring ice caves within icebergs, winding your way through hundreds of passageways under the ice.

Extreme Cliff Diving: Here's another extreme adrenaline rush -- diving off cliffs with rocks on either side or into a narrow pool of water as your target may just be for you. Cliff divers must also take into consideration exactly where they'll land since there are lots of rocks beneath the water that are only visible as shadows in the water below. Cliff divers often take their plunge from a height of 80-feet or more. In California, cliff divers come from all over the world to take up the challenges of The Punch Bowls, which have several waterfalls and you're required to jump away from the falls.

Extreme Cave Diving: Extreme diving gets it's name because it can be potentially life threatening, however, experienced cave divers know exactly how to handle any situation that could cause an injury or even death. Extreme cave divers are a relatively small group who are driven by their desire to push the limits of gravity by diving into dark, unforgiving waters. Diving into caves adds another element of danger since, if you have a problem, you won't be able to "shoot straight" up to the surface, which could be a tragic situation for the diver.
