Dirt Biking Schools Teach Safety and How to Ride Off Road Motorcycles

from: Maxx Sports Guides

Riding a dirt bike is not the same as riding a regular motorcycle. It takes skill and special techniques to control a dirt bike.

If someone's interested in taking up the sport, what kind of instruction is available?

A dirt bike enthusiast likely could teach you, but you probably would be better off to enrol in a dirt biking school. It's a good way to learn how to ride off road motorcycles.

Dirt biking school begins with a classroom discussion on the basic rules and techniques of dirt biking. The introductory course takes half a day to a full day. The beginner will learn in a controlled environment without being under pressure.

Beginners Taught the Basics

Most of the time is spent learning to ride and handle your bike during hands-on sessions. This is where the real fun begins. On the track, beginners are taught the proper way to sit on a dirt bike, the location and function of the bike's controls and straight line riding.

Once these are mastered, the coaches will teach you how to ride in circles, negotiate sharp turns, and how to manage hills.

As well as learning how to drive a dirt bike, the dirt biking school makes you aware of your responsibility in making every ride safe and exciting for you and for other riders. Other topics such as traffic control, risk management, first aid and environmental awareness are also addressed.

At the end of the day, everyone enrolled should have a working knowledge of the necessary techniques that a dirt biker must know. Each biker will also understand the importance of staying safe, acting responsibly and having fun when riding a dirt bike. The day ends with a short trip on a bike trail.

You will need a good off-road motorcycle to enrol in a dirt biking school. You will also need proper riding gear such as a helmet, motorcycle jacket, gloves, padding and boots.

If you don't have these items, the school can always rent you the bike and the gear. Dirt biking schools usually charge $90 to $100. They usually offer discounts for group enrolment. Students under 18 should have their parents' permission.

For beginners, dirt biking schools are the best option for learning about dirt bikes, meeting new friends and having fun.
