Florida Dirt Bike Trails Provide Riding Facilities Year Round
from: Maxx Sports GuidesUnlike other types of motor sports that often depend on weather conditions, dirt bike trail riding is usually done all year round.
In most States in the U. S., dirt bike riding is temporarily halted during the winter season. Some take up skiing and snowmobiling, but others say that there's nothing like dirt bike trail riding.
However, some dirt bike trails in the United States are frequented during the winter season. Among the most prominent are the Florida dirt bike trails.
Florida's Only State Operated Dirt Trail Park>/b>
Among the most popular Florida dirt bike trails is the Florida Croom Motorcycle Area. This dirt bike facility is the only State operated dirt trail park in Florida.
Located about forty miles north of Tampa, along the Withlacoochee State Forest, it can be accessed off of Interstate I-75 at exit 301 at SR50.
The 2,600 acres of Florida dirt bike trails has numerous features, such as campsites, parking areas and a wide variety of terrain for all categories -- expert, amateur, open, and others. These Florida dirt bike trails are open to all types of ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles) and dirt bikes.
However, all dirt trail vehicles must have the required mufflers in accordance with State of Florida regulations. Also, all dirt trail riders must wear their helmets at all times when dirt trail riding.
Riders 16 years of age and younger must be under the direct supervision of an adult rider.
Since reservations for these Florida dirt bike trails is on a first-come, first-serve basis, no reservations are needed. Each of the 51 camping sites is provided with water and electricity hook ups.
Rugged Cross Country Trails
Showers and restrooms are also provided but are somewhat primitive. For added convenience, a private camping ground is at the exit of the trails.
The most remarkable part of the Croom Motorcycle Area is the four square miles of diverse and numerous rugged cross country dirt bike trails. This is the only dirt bike trail in Florida open all year round. Because of the diverse climate of the area, local rangers often change the rules on the area depending on weather conditions.
