Yamaha Has Long History of Producing Quality, Top Performing Dirt Bikes

from: Maxx Sports Guides

Yamaha Motor Company, which started manufacturing dirt bikes after the Second World War, has continued to produce high quality dirt bikes.

In the mid-1940s, then company president Gen-ichi Kawakami decided to take advantage of a production line and tooling once used for manufacturing aircraft engines.

The history of Yamaha dirt bikes started with its first bike, the "YA1" model. It was the forerunner in the history of Yamaha dirt bikes.

After introducing the YA1 to the market, Yamaha Motor Company provided the motorcycle industry with certain innovations and advancements such as the Autolube System. The system, which automatically mixes the oil and fuel, is designed for dual stroke engines.

The YA1 is an all purpose motorcycle with numerous features, including a plunger rear suspension system.

First 'True' Dirt Bike

However, the first "true" dirt bike in the history of Yamaha dirt bikes was the DT-1 model. The DT-1 had a massive impact on the United States motorcycling industry.

It was the first motorcycle in the history of Yamaha dirt bikes to distinguish itself in a rough terrain environment. In 1975 Yamaha Motor Company manufactured and introduced the first single shock dirt bike.

Yamaha's YZ250 was the first motorcycle in the series of Yamaha motocross machines. The YZ model series of Yamaha dirt bikes are similar in appearance to that of "Works Bikes".

The Yamaha dirt bike series was again in demand with the introduction of the YZ400F model. This model is the only serious four stroke engine available on the market that was used for mid capacity motocross application.

This YZ400F dirt bike set the standard for four stroke engines among dirt bike manufacturers. The same model was used by Doug Henry, who won the National Outdoor Series in the same year the model was released.

Five-Value Titanium Engine

In 2007, Yamaha brought out its YZ250F model. This model's numerous features still makes it one of today's best dirt bikes. A significant design and manufacturing feature is the ongoing enhancement of the dirt bike's chassis and engine.

This particular bike model has remarkable balance and efficient performance. Its five- valve titanium engine provides incredible torque and horsepower.

Throughout the history of Yamaha dirt bikes, the company has demonstrated its dedication to producing high quality and top performing dirt bikes.
