Safety for Players and Spectators of Vital Importance during Paintball Games

from: Maxx Sports Guides

Safety is a vitally important for those who want to play Paintball. This includes everything from the proper clothing that should be worn to the types of weapons that can be used.

Paintball is an extreme game, with thousands of players nationwide. More than ten organizations sponsor events throughout the country at different venues.

Though the game's inventors created it just for fun, this game has grown immensely. One survey has shown that Paintball is the third most popular game in the world.

With this popularity has come the need for protective equipment, consisting of a face mask, gloves, pads for the chest, knees and elbows. They must be worn at all times while inside the playing field. Shoes with rubber soles are advisable, given the rough terrain where the game is usually played.

Guns should be inspected before being used in any match or tournament, because of the maximum velocity allowed. The paintballs should not travel more than 300 feet per second. Anything greater can seriously injure players.

Barrel plugs should be used to prevent a misfiring for the safety of the gun owner and others present during the event.

Clean Dirty Face Masks

During the heat of the action the face mask may fall off suddenly. The mask can also fog due to sweat, paint or dirt. When this happens, the player should call on the referee so that the player can go off field and clean his or her mask. The opponent isn't allowed to fire on the player until the latter is ready to return to the firing zone.

Since this game is about fun, players aren't allowed to curse or hit other players. The only activity allowed is shooting the opponent to eliminate him.

Another safety feature allowed in the game involves giving the opposing player the opportunity to surrender. However, if the player shows any hostile action, a player has no choice but to shoot the opponent.

Aside from protection given to players, event organizers also put safety nets around the area. The audience is required to stay a certain distance away from the action to avoid being hit by any of the balls.

Since safety is a primary concern of paintball and almost every other sport, rules are set in place and players must abide by them. This is done to protect players and fans, and to prevent injuries so that everyone can have a good time.
