Paintball Games Require Teamwork, Strategic Moves

from: Maxx Sports Guides

Paintball basically involves shooting small blobs of paint at your opponent. As a sport, it's considered safe, simple yet challenging and strategic.

Usually, two teams, each with at least two players, play the sport. Adults and kids alike enjoy this sport, often referring to it as an advanced or improvised game of tag.

Tournaments attract many spectators of all ages, as it's an exciting game to watch.

Various types of paintball games are played. However, one the most popular and most played game is called "capture the flag". The object or the goal is for teams to advance to the opponent's base, move the other team's flag to its destined location, while at the same time guarding your own flag.

The paintball field has many obstacles such as tires, forts, old cars, and hay. The newest obstacles are inflatable pieces used as refuge for team players; making the game all the more exciting, as if participating in an actual video war game.

When players are hit, they can hurt briefly and even get some bruises. Therefore, players are usually required to wear a long sleeved shirt and pants. The color is not to be identical with that worn by the judge, nor the same as the complete paintball gear such as mask, helmet and goggles.

The sport of paintball has a distinct and accurate set of rules that are strictly followed. The tournament producer is the absolute authority when it comes to altering or adding to the rules; marshals oversee the event, and their decision is always final.

A military approach to paintball is useless, as that knowledge is recognized and understood by the teams. A team should carefully plan its tactical moves. The opposing team will not know your team's line of attack; however, the team needs to be ready to switch plans quickly in case something goes wrong.

Much team work involved, as everyone moves through the field. As a team member moves, others should be available to guard, keep watch and fire off covering shots when necessary. A team that moves together with a common objective will have a better chance of succeeding in this game.

Communication in the field is also vitally important. A team-mate can shout the position of the opponent. As soon as a player is seen, the game for that player is up; so there's no reason to keep quiet; instead, inform team-mates of the enemy's location.

This game's excitement ends when you're seen and eliminated -- a situation that all team players struggle to avoid.
