Skydiving Weight Limit
from: Maxx Sports GuidesIt's definitely true that skydiving is an extreme sport where anyone can experience exhilarating experience while being glided left and right and even 360 degrees turn on canopy ride. For many years skydiving has attracted many enthusiasts who've became addicted to this sport. Skydiving is a sport for everyone -- actually, this is rather debatable.
If you think skydiving is a sport for everyone, then you're wrong. Skydiving has its limitations and this limitation has nothing to do with stunts or lessons involved. Quiet simply, skydiving weight limit is a major concern, which makes some of those who want to try but didn't make their first attempt because of the weight limitations that must be strictly followed.
Skydiving weight limits vary from one skydiving center to another. Each skydiving school has its own set of skydiving weight limits to ensure the safety of the students. Likewise skydiving categories have their specified skydiving weight limit. A tandem skydiver should fit into a required weight category the same is true with the accelerated free fall and static line skydivers.
For example, Skydive Orange has a policy that their skydivers should not be heavier than 220 pounds. Those who are more than 220 pounds are required to pay an additional skydiving charge. The rate increases $25 per jump for a maximum of 10 pounds increase in weight, so if the skydiver's weight is between 220-230lbs then the skydiver is going to pay $25 more, if it's somewhere between 230-240 lbs then $50 is the additional charge.
This weight limit vis-a-vis price per jump is only for the tandem skydives. Other computations and weight limits are imposed on other categories like the accelerated free fall and the static line. In Skydive Orange the maximum weight it allows to skydive is 270 lbs. Other than the weight limitation, students should also display sound health. Those who have heart problems aren't allowed to skydive.
You might be wondering why it's so important to put on skydiving weight limit. The regulation on limiting the weight of the skydiver under certain weight category is to make sure the skydiver's parachute can carry their weight. A parachute, if used under extreme conditions like carrying heavier weight than what it can actually carry, can make the chute wear out easily. In addition, the cost of the maintenance of the chutes is expensive, thus the additional charges.
Other skydiving centers or schools have their own weight requirement with corresponding charges for those who go beyond the weight limit. Now you know how important a person's weight can be, especially to those who dreamed of defying the limits of velocity.
