There are actually a lot of species of black bass considered game fish in Northern America. These species include the largemouth bass or the Micropterus salmoides, the smallmouth bass or the Mictopterus dolomieui, the spotted bass or the Mictopterus punctatus, the Guadalupe bass or the Micropterus treculii, and other subspecies of these game fishes.
A bass angler primarily deals with fishing for bass. Black bass are best known for its strong ability. Aside from it being fished mainly for sporting events, a bass angler can also fish black bass recreationally. Depending upon the many species of black bass, along with some other minor factors, such as food availability and water quality, a bass angler can find black bass from reservoirs, rivers, ponds, streams, lakes, creeks, and even ditches along the roadside. A bass angler should be aware of the basics about the different species of black bass.
For example, the largemouth bass is very popular for its huge size and its ability to resist when it's hooked, favoring powerful yet short escapes to cover itself on submerged logs and weedbeds. On the other hand, a bass angler should also be aware that the smallmouth bass tends to jump aggressively and fight fiercely when hooked, to throw itself away from the hook.
When served for dinner, these bass are usually in fillet form and its firm and white flesh is very delicious when cooked. Over the years, a typical bass angler is practically adopting the "catch and release" method of angling, wherein the bass is simply returned back to the water after it's been hooked and then retrieved.
