Bass Spoon Baits
from: Maxx Sports GuidesBass fishing is the art of angling for the North American game fish known as the Black Bass. The sport, which originated in Europe towards the end of the 1800s, has become popular in the U.S. on its own and is now one of the most popular money making pass time activities.
The main reason it's popular is that this fish is a hardy species, which is why it's often used in "catch and release" angling. This means, the fish is caught, weighed and then released in tank water to restore it to its normal senses and later returned to the lakes or ponds where they were hooked.
A wide variety of baits are used in bass fishing. Spoon baits are one of the commonly used baits for hooking bass fish in shallow waters. Spoon baits for bass fishing are available in a huge variety of colors, sizes and shapes and use may vary depending upon time or place.
Spoon bait is ideal for murky waters or places with dense cover. This is because it has the advantage of throwing the bait down with the least amount of effort and it also doesn't compel you to perch on uneven surfaces. It can also be used in windy conditions when you can drop it over foliage or weeds which are frequented by bass.
For better results in bass hunting, you should have a 7' MH bait cast rod and a high speed reel. This gives you additional advantages for fast water coverage. If you're fishing bass in the summer and want the bass to come out on its own and get hooked, then tie your bait, here, the spoon bait and throw it or drop it very carefully over a wind blown leaf floating on water or some water vegetation. The bass will come in search of food and get caught.
Once the bait is thrown at the desired point, wait patiently for the fish to come and pick it up. Don't pull before the bass begins to nibble at the bait. If you want to hook a big bass, take care to pull it gently, allowing it to get hooked without applying pressure or straining the reel.
You can also use the same spoon bait as buzz bait by adding a pork or frog. Spoon bait may also be used as spinner bait by making it run over pads and mats and making the bait fall on weeds at the same time.
For best results, use a small 3/8 oz. spoon with a frog at its tip for the extra buoyancy, balance and weight required in bass fishing.
