Canadian Fly Fishing Equipment at its Best

from: Maxx Sports Guides

If you live in or have visited Canada, you know it's has some of the most beautiful areas in the world. Along with magnificent mountains, you'll discover beautiful running streams that provide a picture perfect scene. Cool running water houses some of the best fish most anglers cann't wait to land. The fishing is great in Canada and the types of fish include salmon, shellfish, tuna, mackerel, halibut and redfish. Most of these fish are treasures many anglers would dearly love to serve up to their family and friends.

Having Canadian fly fishing equipment on your fishing trip is your most important tool. When purchasing equipment ensure that it's a comfortable fit for you. For example, when choosing a fly fishing rod, keep in mind your size and height. If you're short, a 7-foot rod may not work well for you. Rods should be specific for fly-fishing and accommodate your height.

Another important aspect in Canadian fly fishing equipment is the choice of artificial flies or nymphs. Either method works effectively, but most anglers have their personal favorites. What works well for one may not do so for another. Many fishermen both and mix the two methods successfully. An artificial fly for bait sits just on the surface of the water. This method works well because, to the fish, it looks like a delicious meal. The nymph method looks like eggs just below the surface waiting for dinner.

Canadian fly fishing equipment should also include a life vest. It's dangerous to be in any water without safety equipment. Accidents happen and a life jacket could save your life. The water in Canada is very cold, so every precaution should be taken to ensure the entire families safety. Many of the boating companies or outfitters furnish life vests for those who don't have their own.

As for other types of bait for Canadian fly fishing equipment, you can choose grubs, jigs or plastic worms. Grubs work best for larger fish, they're easy to see and the fish like to bite them. Grubs can be used in clear water and produce great results.

Jigs, on the other hand, work best in water that isn't especially clean and has low visibility. Plastic worms are also chosen by many when fishing in Canada. The big fish tend to like plastic worms, since they look so real. If you want those trophy catches, try using the plastic worm to get a big bite!
