How To Make a Fish Rod Blank

from: Maxx Sports Guides

When it comes to fishing rod blank production, there aren't that many companies in the world with the expertise to produce a blank that's ideal for use by fishing enthusiasts all over the world. While most of them won't reveal the particulars of the processes they've developed over the years, there are a few secrets to the blank making process they'll share.

Here are some examples of elements that go into producing a quality rod blank.

Most manufacturers agree that experience goes a long way when producing a quality blank. In many instances, this experience was a long time in coming, and involved a number of failed experiments as different materials were tried and various and sundry prototypes were developed and rejected for one reason or another.

Of course, all these failures can ultimately lead to the production of a fish blank that lacks the defects of the earlier projects, and can then be produced with ease. Persistence is a big factor in getting through the failures and ultimately reaching the point of success.

While persisting in the efforts, creative design is another essential element in ultimately producing a quality fishing rod blank. Often, this will start with a basic existing blank as the foundation and then coming up with new and innovative ways to improve upon the existing design.

Coming up with create ways to improve on the basic takes time, but it also takes a sense of vision. Even if the creative efforts lead to a dead end, they may also be the inspiration for a new and better idea.

Choice of materials is also important. Many materials can be immediately be eliminated, why models of various designs may be created using different materials, which in turn are subjected to rigorous testing.

The goal is a new design that's attractive to users, is easy to produce and also is made of a material that will last and perform well. Fishing rod blank design and improvement rests squarely on these principles, and will probably continue to be the blueprint for new developments in the years to come.
