Of course, the first place to visit is your local sporting goods store. Typically, you'll find lots of fishing rods in stock, along with line, bait, and other essentials. National chain sporting goods stores carry some great national brands, and perhaps a few regional ones with exemplary quality. From time to time, you can take advantage of a sale, and get a new bass rod for an even better price.
An alternative is to check out your local national discount retail chains. The sporting goods departments in these stores often have a nice selection of fishing supplies, including rods and reels. While they may not be quite as high quality as your choices at a sporting goods store, many of them should be quite reliable and the prices are usually lower. When it comes to bass rods, you should have no problem finding a few to choose from that should do the job nicely.
Don't forget to check out what's available at a bait shop. Many of these shops also carry a limited number of rods for bass fishing. Often, the brands carried will be made by companies who have some association with the region, although national brands may also be available. The advantage to going to a bait shop is there's probably one or two people there who can give you first hand information about how the rods in stock work, which can be a great help if you're new to bass fishing.
