Fishing is one of the most popular pastimes in the world. People fish for food, for sport as well as to control the overpopulation in some streams, lakes and ponds. Trout are one of the favorites for game fisherman to land but reeling them in isn't always as easy as it sounds -- or as it may be with other types of fish.

These tips, from real trout fisherman will help you.

1. The first step is to locate your fish. Know where you'll be going fishing and know how to locate the fish in the water in that area. Wearing polarized sunglasses is usually recommended because they allow you to see past the glare and spot the trout beneath the water's surface.

2. When fishing in murky water, use a heavier line and a heavier split shot because the water will be higher and swifter. The murky water helps to conceal your heavy line, so there's less worry than having a larger one.

3. If it's a clear, sunny, calm day with clear water, you should use as light a line as possible. Try clear nylon sewing machine thread or a 2-poound test line.

4. Know your park. Take time to locate and contact the hatchery office in the park you'll be fishing so you can learn more about the stream or lake. They'll be able to provide information, such as the conditions of the stream, typical weather patterns as well as more helpful advice.

5. While many people fly fish for trout, it's certainly not the only way to catch these creatures. In fact, many trout fisherman use spinning reels and rods instead of fly rods. Which methed you choose is personal preference on your part.

6. Know your species. Did you know there are many different species' of trout? Part of being a great trout fisherman is discovering each one and learning all you can about each one.
