Choosing Reliable Hunting Gear
from: Maxx Sports GuidesWhether your hunting for deer, turkey, pheasant or ducks, hunting gear is always the subject of much debate between hunters. While some feel that only the barest basics are necessary for a successful hunt, others insist the benefit of high tech gadgets and kits make a huge difference in how successful a hunting trip will be.
If you don't have the right hunting gear, a trip can go from fun and adventurous to a disaster in no time flat. If you have too little gear you could be in for some dangerous outcomes. However, relying too much on high tech gadgets can give a false sense of security. Whatever side of the debate you're on, everyone agrees that getting out in the field and finding out for sure is something no hunter wants to happen.
Hunting gear consists of a several different items. Firearms and ammunition, camouflaged clothing, calls, scent blockers, ground navigation equipment plus first aid items are in the category of hunting gear. This gear varies depending on the type of hunt but also the time of year and geographic location.
Hunting in the chill of fall requires clothing and gear that withstands cooler temperatures, especially at higher altitudes where it's imperative a hunter maintains a consistent body temperature. In warm or humid climates and temperatures, clothing and gear must be able to breathe as well as effectively withstand moisture.
Hunting gear is mainly used to complement and assist with the hunt. In some cases, it makes it even easier. Calls of all kinds help to mimic the sound of various animals by coaxing them into a hunter's line of sight. GPS locators help define a hunter's location right down to a six by twenty foot circumference.
Binoculars are often included in a list of necessary gear. There are even items that your wouldn't normally consider hunting gear, such as trash bags. However, when hunting game these bags are a handy protective lining in a hunter's pack.
It's often recommended that hunters carry as little as possible for efficiency. A pack that feels light at the beginning of a hunt can feel fifty pounds heavier by mid-afternoon. Thus each hunter needs to learn what is necessary and what isn't during the course of a hunt.
Many hunters learn what their basic needs are with experience while also personalizing their own hunting gear list over time. The debate will continue to rage between using just the basics versus technologically advanced gear, but it's likely that using a combination of the two makes for a sound decision by any hunter.
