Small Game Hunting: Preparing to Lock and Load
from: Maxx Sports GuidesThere are basic steps for making small game hunting a fun and enjoyable activity. Of course, this activity only becomes fun and enjoyable provided that you know what you are doing, why you are doing it, and just how to go about it.
Here are basic tips to make your small game hunting a memorable activity.
Use binoculars the easy way
Hunting isn't really hunting if you don't have binoculars. Tie the straps of your binoculars close to each other making sure enough space is provided for the straps to fit when you put them over your head. This way you make sure the binoculars go up on your chest where they probably won't swing back and forth. It also makes it easy for you to grab and conveniently raise them towards your eye level.
Ready, Aim, Practice, Shoot
It's best that any shooting done prior to actually hunting is first done on a practice range. The targets need not be specialized items or objects. Common plastic jugs (like those used for milk) will do. Fill these jugs with water and place them in an empty field and then simply use them for your targets.
Believe it or not, the size of a milk jug is basically the same as the sensitive area of a deer.
Check the ticks
When it's time to go hunting for the first time, don't forget to tuck in your shirt inside your pants. Also, make sure your pants are tucked inside your boots. More than a fashion statement, this style is to help you avoid getting infested with ticks.
For your information, the months between April and September are the season when ticks abound, at least in North America.
Wear good shoes
Men, as well as women, should heed this sound advice. Women who are hunting need to get footwear made specifically for women. Women who intentionally buy shoes made for men, though they're of a smaller size, can actually make their feet hurt more. Men's shoes are made specifically for the contours and shape of male feet. Women's shoes are made specifically for the contours of women's feet -- they have a profile that's a lot narrower and a higher instep.
Preparing for your small game hunting trips takes practice to make the art of hunting a perfect and fun activity.
