Tire Manufacturers Deeply Involved as Sponsors in Formula D
from: Maxx Sports GuidesAuto racing drivers may be spinning and drifting their wheels as they maneuvre their way to the finish line. But not everyone in the public may realize how dependent drivers are on their tires.
This is where tire manufacturers come in. A host of popular tire makers are deeply involved as sponsors in auto racing events, including Formula D racing.
Just as sport fans tend to follow the sponsors of their favorite team or player, the same can be said with auto racing. In auto racing, this is most commonly seen with NASCAR, which reportedly has the largest group of loyal fans.
Fans not only support the sponsors of their favorite drivers, but they also tend to buy merchandise or services from them.
The same can be said with Formula Drifting, a relatively new sport in the United States. Even though the first professional event was held in 2004, the sport still has a sizeable fan following.
These fans are loyal, just like many NASCAR fans. That's a major reason that many sponsors, also referred to as product manufacturers, have decided to get involved with the sport. Tire manufacturers are among Formula D sponsors that come to mind most often.
As well as getting their name on a driver's uniform, tire manufacturers supply tires to drivers. In Formula D, the tires used are extremely important. In fact, to create a drift the tires need to lose traction with the ground. This essentially helps to create the perfect drift.
Since tires are so important to the sport of drifting, a large number of tire manufacturers have been attracted to the sport as sponsors. In fact, it has been noted that Formula D has the most tire manufacturer sponsors of any other motor sport, including NASCAR.
Nitto Tire is one of the many tire manufacturers involved with Formula Drifting. Like many other tire manufacturers, Nitto makes tires for all different vehicles and all different driving conditions.
While well known for their tires for traditional vehicles, such as cars, SUVs, and trucks, Nitto Tire is best known for its racing tires. One of these tires includes the NT 555 RII, used primarily with road racing and other competitive sports, such as Formula D.
BF Goodrich Tire, also involved in Formula Drifting, is one of the best known tire manufacturers in the United States. As with Nitto Tires, BG Goodrich Tires has a wide variety of different tires, available for different uses. When it comes to sports cars and Formula Drifting, many BF Goodrich Tires are ideal for the sport.
Maxxis Tires, another sponsor and tire manufacturer involved in Formula D, is also a well known tire manufacturer. While not as well known to the general public, they're well known to those involved in auto sports, such as auto racing or Formula Drifting. In fact, Maxxis Tire puts most of its focus on auto sports, including Formula Drifting.
But of all the tire manufacturers and sponsors perhaps the best known for Formula Drifting is Bridgestone. As well as being used in Formula D, Bridgestone tires are used in other motor sports.
These sports include, but aren't limited to, Formula One, supercross racing, and monster truck racing. As well as being popular in racing circles, Bridgestone is known by almost everyone familiar with tires. In fact, you may even have Bridgestone tires on your personal vehicle.
Other tire manufacturers who are also Formula D sponsors include Toyo Tires, Falken Tires, Cooper Tires, and Dunlop Tires.
At your next Formula D event, you may want to keep an eye on the tires being used. All of the tire manufacturers mentioned here come highly recommended, but you'll often find that the tires used plays a big part in how Formula D cars perform.
