Once an Underground Activity, Formula D Racing Enjoys an Exciting History

from: Maxx Sports Guides

You may be a new fan of Formula D Racing, also known as Formula Drifting, or a long-time follower of this exciting motor sport.

However, regardless of how long you've been a fan, it's important to know, understand, and appreciate the history of Formula D Racing. With that history you likely will enjoy the sport much more.

Formula D Racing is most commonly known on a professional level. Professional drifting is relatively new to the United States, but the sport of drifting isn't. In fact, drifting has been around in the United States for more than thirty years - not on a professional level, but on an underground level.

Little has been said about this type of racing in the past because "underground activities" usually describe secret or illegal activities. In many areas of the United States, street racing is considered illegal; therefore, drifting would have been as well.

Despite the popularity of underground drifting, it was dangerous. Many of these underground events took place on city streets or at other unsafe locations. For that reason, a small drifting association was created.

As well as creating a safe drifting environment, often at local racetracks, the sport saw the establishment of member benefits, including training events and much more. Slipstream Global announced they were developing another company, which later became known as Formula Drift, Inc.

Formula Drift was the first organization to own and operate a professional drifting series in the United States. Currently, it's the only organization to do so. This series, as mentioned, are commonly known as Formula D.

In addition to Formula D, professional drifting is also referred to as Formula Drift or Formula Drifting. This series was formed in 2003; however, it was 2004 before Formula D events started taking place.

Road Atlanta, in Atlanta, Georgia, was home to the first ever professional Formula D event in April, 2004.

Since 2004, additional tracks have been added. Seven venues were added to the circuit to 2004. In future, additional events are expected to be added.

As well as added venues, Formula Drift, Inc. also reached an agreement with G4TV. The popular television network has retained the rights to air Formula D events, as well as additional programming, which is centered on the sport.

G4TV has also reached an agreement with iTunes, allowing Formula D podcasts to be available to iTunes users. Both the podcasts and the iTunes program are all free to acquire.

Without a doubt, the history behind Formula Drifting history is exciting. Without the influence of Japanese drifting and the formation of a drifting alliance, drifting would possibly still be an underground activity, instead of being widely known as a professional sport.
