Popularity of Supercross Motorcycle Racing Spurs Interest in Amateur Tracks

from: Maxx Sports Guides

Participants and fans alike rave about Supercross motorcycle racing as a fun, exciting, and action packed sport.

Despite its popularity, primarily in America, many still have no idea what this sport is all about.

Supporters say if you enjoy watching professional racing, especially NASCAR, you'll most likely also enjoy Supercross motorcycle racing. Like most other forms of racing, Supercross is an action packed, competitive sport. Watching a live or televised Supercross race can keep you on the edge of your seat.

Although Supercross has been compared to NASCAR, the two actually have little in common, other than the fact they're both focused on racing and highly popular.

NASCAR uses traditional race cars, also referred to as sports cars. Supercross uses motorcycles. These unique motorcycles aren't the regular ones you see on the highway; they're off-road bikes made especially for off-road racing.

Supercross also differs from other forms of racing, especially when it comes to the racing surface. Other forms of racing are done on asphalt or traditional dirt tracks. Supercross racing events, however, take place on man-made tracks, which are often indoors.

Tracks will vary, depending on the type of Supercross race, but most have numerous obstacles, including jumps. The goal in Supercross is to maneuver your motorcycle through the track and finish first.

Again, the type of man-made track will depend entirely on the type of Supercross race being run. While Supercross is a professional racing sport, it's not just limited to professional racing. Men, women, and children from all across the United States have started taking part in this fun and exciting sport.

Often referred to as amateur Supercross racers, they may race at a local track. In fact, many individuals and business owners have come together to sponsor local Supercross drivers, as well as provide funding for the tracks.

These events may not be considered professional, but they're rapidly increasing in popularity. In fact, they're becoming so popular, a local Supercross or motocross track may even be in or around your own neighborhood.

As well, many individuals have made their own Supercross tracks. While most professional Supercross racing tracks are found indoors, most amateurs have or use outdoor ones.

Many wannabe professional riders have decided to develop a track in their own backyard or in nearby fields. One downside is that racers are less protected in case of accidents. If an accident occurs, it may be more difficult to obtain help, compared to racing at professional tracks and sanctioned events.

Now that you're a bit more familiar with Supercross motorcycle racing, you may want to become a fan or even a racer. In any event, the chances are you'll likely be enjoying the sport of Supercross motorcycle racing for many years.
