Prevent Injuries When Working Out

from: Maxx Sports Guides

Bodybuilding is definitely very hard work, so you need to be careful about protecting your muscles. This can be accomplished by learning everything you can about save bodybuilding practices. Read up on the subject, use common sense, and work with professionals to continually increase your knowledge on how to stay safe in the gym when training.

An important piece of advice is to know your limits. Everyone's body is different, which means what's right for another person may cause you injury, even if you're equal size. So know your strengths and weaknesses on each machine, and keep your workout intense, but safe. If you can't do at least 8 reps with the amount of weight you're using, reduce your weight. Doing this will not only not give you the results you want, but too much weight is potentially dangerous. Staying on the threshold of what you can and can't do is what will help you define your muscles.

If you discover you do have to lift large amounts of weight to get to your threshold, do so only with a spotter. Spotters are especially useful when bench pressing. A good match is someone who is about the same size as you, or who can at least lift the weight you're using in case you need help.

Remember to return the favor -- offer to spot for them as you're relaxing your muscles when you're finished. Having a workout partner at the gym is just a matter of safety. If anything goes wrong, this person can help staff figure out who you are and whom they should contact. A workout partner also helps motivate you to achieve your goals.

To prevent injury, start your workout with stretches and a good warm up routine. Use light weights and do light aerobics to get your muscles ready for larger action. Doing this first helps your muscles get ready for the stress of a training session. When you begin your regular workout, use a mirror to ensure you have good form.

If you do an exercise the wrong way, you risk injury and you won't see results. After you use the mirror for a few sessions, you'll probably be able to feel if your form is correct, but a workout partner or personal trainer can also help you in this area.

Finally, use your common sense. Stay hydrated and practice a healthy lifestyle to prevent injuries. Also consult your doctor about diet. When you do intense workouts, you should eat more, and a professional will help you choose foods that will replenish the nutrients in your body. If all else fails, ask for advice from someone who knows what they are doing.
